The Rexburg Police Department, in association with the Madison School District #321,
has a School Resource Officer Program which provides the use of four trained and
certified full-time Police Officers who will work within the school system. These
highly qualified police officers all have a minimum of 4 years law enforcement experience
and have completed a 40 hour School Resource Training program. They are also trained
as
D.A.R.E. Officers and teach
D.A.R.E.
throughout the year. The objectives of the School Resource Officer Program is to
promote and assist the Madison School District in providing a safe learning environment,
and to improve relationships between the Rexburg Police Department and the youth
of our community. The program attempts to promote a better understanding of the
Law Enforcement Officers' role in society while educating students, parents, school
personnel, and the community on important issues such as gangs, violent crime, drugs,
and other related law enforcement topics. The program also provides a positive role
model in the educational system. The primary focus of this program is directed toward
education, rather than enforcement. The specific tasks, assignments, and procedures
were established in a cooperative agreement between the Rexburg Police Department
and the Madison School District.
