The Building Department is responsible for protecting the public’s health, safety and general welfare relating to construction and occupancy of buildings and structures.  They do so by reviewing construction and engineering plans and building material specifications, and by inspecting the buildings throughout the construction process. 

The Building Official enforces and interprets the building code.  Responsibilities include adopting policies and procedures in order to clarify the application of that code.  The Building Official works as an advisor to City Council members in formulating proposals, policies and procedures pertaining to housing codes and related zoning ordinances.  Supervises the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire inspectors, Building Department Administrative Assistant and interns. Other responsibilities include initiating training programs and techniques for his personnel to be affront with changes in the trades.

Building Official oversees the preservation and protection of building records.  Reports accurate annual records to concerned agencies and organizations and is an integral voice in the International Code Council’s hearings for the changing of Building Codes.

The HVAC Program was created to promote the health, safety, and welfare of Rexburg's citizens through effective administration of the laws and rules governing the installation and operation of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems and by ensuring that those who perform installation and/or service work involving such equipment are properly trained and licensed.

The Electrical Program was created to promote the health, safety, and welfare of Rexburg's citizens through effective administration of the laws and rules governing the installation and operation of Electrical systems and by ensuring that those who perform installation and/or service work involving such equipment are properly trained and licensed.  All electrical codes and regulations are designed to protect and safeguard the lives, health, and property of the citizens. 

 

Plumbing tools & plans

The Plumbing Program was established to provide for the health and safety of the citizens of Rexburg in private and public buildings by ensuring that plumbing practices are in compliance with the Idaho Plumbing Code as adopted. The program provides technical assistance to the public, building officials, and plumbing contractors.
