Seasonal Things to Do in Rexburg

Welcome to Rexburg’s seasonal guide, where each time of year offers unique opportunities to celebrate, explore, and enjoy the beauty and spirit of our community. Throughout the year, residents and visitors alike can embrace the changing seasons with a variety of activities, festivals, and traditions that highlight the distinct character of each period. Whether it’s the vibrant energy of spring, the warm camaraderie of summer, the colorful transitions of fall, or the cozy charm of winter, Rexburg provides many ways to connect with the community, engage at local events, and create core memories all year round.

Spring

Spring in Rexburg is a time of renewal and community spirit, as we welcome the season of new growth despite the lingering winter chill. One of the city's highlights is the stunning apple blossoms at BYUI’s orchard, signaling the arrival of warmer days. At the Rexburg Tabernacle Civic Center, join the Museum of Rexburg as they celebrate our town's birthday each March with a quilt show in the auditorium, showing the woven threads of connection from residents across the county.

As Easter approaches, families gather at Porter Park for the annual egg hunt, an event that fosters local camaraderie and generosity, with bicycle donations making the day extra special for children. Spring also inspires us to come together in service, as residents and volunteers work to clean up parks and roadside areas left messier by melting snow. Additionally, our public works department hosts an annual spring cleanup, providing residents the opportunity to clear yard debris and prepare their outdoor spaces for the months ahead, all a testament to our collective effort and community pride.

In early June, we commemorate the anniversary of the Teton Dam Flood each year with the Teton Dam marathon. This race brings hundreds to the area for a run along the path of the flood, from the dam site into Rexburg. Shortly after, the Legacy Flight Museum hosts a bi-annual flight show or a bi-annual community pancake breakfast. These working military aircraft and the pilots who operate them really know how to bring the kind of energy we need to get Rexburg ready for warmer weather!

Our parks come alive with a variety of activities—from peaceful walks among the trees at Nature Park to energetic games on the sports courts at Smith Park. Rexburg Rapids offers the ultimate cool-down with thrilling slides, a lazy river, and a kids’ play area, complemented by a snack bar to satisfy every craving. For more relaxed afternoons, Porter Park’s carousel and splash pad are ideal spots for family fun, while our summer concert series brings live music to the community each Monday evening. Feeling green? We have two golf courses to test your swing; our 9- and 24-hole courses are sure to satisfy.

The Fourth of July is the highlight of summer for many. Celebrate the season and your American pride with a parade, party in the park, 5k run, fireworks galore, and so much more.

With Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks just a short drive away, tourist season is at its peak in the summer. Avoid overly congested roads as much as possible by staying up-to-date on traffic impacts via our Infrastructure Update Map.

The Madison Library & the Chamber of Commerce’s "Ready, Set, Recharge" program keeps kids engaged with fun activities and prizes, making summer the perfect time to explore, relax, and enjoy all that Rexburg has to offer. The county fair and Whoopee Days Rodeo also bring a lot of old-fashioned fun and excitement into our community as we celebrate our wealth of talent and community resources. Each September, the Chamber of Commerce hosts "Experience Rexburg" in Porter Park, a community-inclusive event that introduces new and returning BYU-Idaho students to all there is to offer here in Rexburg. Homecoming season is a highlight for all, with Madison School District celebrating with spirited parades and football games that bring the entire community together in unity and hometown pride! Throughout football season, the Bobcats energize the community with their games, fostering school spirit and camaraderie.
Madison School District also showcases musical theater productions across their Middle, Junior, and High Schools in the fall, all of which showcase the brilliant young local talent that calls us all together.
Our Cultural Arts programs' energy explodes in tandem with the school's, bringing a community theater production for all ages at the Romance Theater. The productions are always family-friendly and great experiences for cast, crew, and community alike. Their annual "OkTUBERfest" celebration at the Tabernacle Civic Center is a festive celebration of harvest and all things potatoes, offering races, crafts, live music, dancing, and a delicious baked potato bar.
As Halloween nears, the Recreation Department ramps up spooky fun with a zombie fun run and trick-or-treating at City Hall and other public facilities. Meanwhile, haunted activities pop up all across the Snake River Valley. Hemming Village's Fall Festival is a fantastic community-led celebration of fall and all things Halloween. If spooky season is not for you, look into our team sport opportunities as another healthy way to get excited for fall.

In the fall, as we prepare for colder, wetter, whiter weather, City crews offer a curbside yard debris pickup service during our 2-week-long Fall Cleanup Event, helping residents tidy up and enjoy the beauty of the season.

As Fall transitions to winter in late November, we close autumn with a Thanksgiving Day Choir performance at the Tabernacle Civic Center every year on Thanksgiving morning. This festive celebration calls the community together to gather on its foundation to share our gratitude for each other and this place we call home.

Winter

Winter in Rexburg transforms the community into a festive wonderland filled with holiday cheer and outdoor adventures. The city’s holiday season guide highlights all the special events, performances, treats, and dazzling light displays that make this time of year magical for residents and visitors alike. In 2025, we’re excited to introduce a new ice skating rink at Riverside Park, right in front of Rexburg Rapids, providing a charming spot for family fun.

When snow blankets the town, the Teton Lakes Winter Park (which takes over Teton Lakes Golf Course) offers cross-country skiing along groomed trails and the best sledding hill in town, perfect for outdoor excitement; for beginners, the Recreation Department offers cross-country ski lessons. Every January, WinterFest invites everyone to the park to brave the Polar Plunge Challenge in the ice-cold pool, then warm up in special hot tubs for the occasion.

To keep our streets safe and clear, overnight street parking is not permitted from December 15th to March 1st, and vehicles must be off all public streets and alleys between 2 am and 7 am.

Despite the winter chill, staying active and engaged is key—explore local programs and resources that promote mental wellness and community connection, ensuring the season remains joyful and vibrant for all.
