Mayor’s Message

Happy Spring! April is a crazy month…it can be the most beautiful day ever one day, and the next, a windy, blustery day; but every day is a blessing to be living in the Rexburg, Idaho, USA community! Once again, we have been ranked the “Safest City in Idaho”. This is largely because of you and the way you conduct yourselves and teach your kids to honor and obey the law. Thank you for your great examples and for helping Rexburg to truly be “America’s Family Community”. A big “Thank You” also goes to our Rexburg Police and Rexburg/Madison County Fire and Emergency Services Departments for the awesome work they do to prevent crime and respond to incidents when they do happen. Many of us will be celebrating Easter this month. In celebration of the “reason for the season”, our local Chamber of Commerce and the Rexburg Kiwanis Club will be sponsoring and running the annual Community Easter Egg Hunt on April 19th at 10 am at Porter Park. We are currently accepting donations from businesses and individuals who would like to sponsor a child’s bicycle for prizes to be given away in this year’s hunt. There are treats and other prizes from local businesses in the eggs as well. Thank you to all who help, and especially the Kiwanis Club members, who set up and run the event each year. (Please contact Amanda Williams at City Hall if you’d like to donate a bike.) Another exciting Easter event will be a concert by Nathan Pacheco on April 25th in the historic Rexburg Tabernacle Community Center. Mr. Pacheco is well renowned across the country and is a fantastic vocalist. We are very lucky to have him coming to perform here in “The Burg.” Please go to the Rexburg Arts Facebook page for more information on that event and other upcoming events. You can also check out the new Arts and Recreation program guide for classes and teams to sign up for as well as upcoming community events and service opportunities. Speaking of service opportunities…we will have a Community Roadside Cleanup event on May 3rd from 8-10 am. We will be cleaning up trash on Hwy 20 and 33 and other places around Rexburg. We will have places to clean up for families with small children that are away from the busier highways so they will be safer places for families with young children to help. Please go to Just Serve Rexburg for more details and come out and help make Rexburg beautiful again and teach your children/grandchildren about serving in the community to help make it a better place. Our community is very diverse with Team Roping classes also available. Check out Rexburg Races Facebook page for this fun activity and to sign up early for the Teton Dam Marathon, Half Marathon or 5 and 10 K races. The earlier you sign up, the better deal it is so don’t delay! I’ve talked to people who run several races around the area, and they tell me the Teton Dam event is by far the best organized race they attend. We are looking for volunteers to help with this fun event so please contact the Recreation Department if you can help with this event.

We will be reading meters April 14th – 18th. Please refrain from watering your lawn until the meters have been read, as we use the winter water average to determine your sewer rate for the year. It is time to start testing backflows. If your system is due for a backflow test this year, please make sure you are getting them scheduled right away. The deadline is June 15th. Please report when you schedule your backflow test on our Rexburg APP, or on Rexburg.org.
