Message from the Idaho Transportation Department “Indeed, we're about to create a smoother ride down Main Street! 😎 Thanks to our contractor partners and friends at the City of Rexburg for helping get the word out! This project will be done at night to keep traffic moving as normal through the day, but some daytime work on curbing and manhole covers will be happening next week. The City's cool infrastructure map could be helpful for finding off-street parking and knowing what's happening where: https://www.rexburg.org/o/cor/page/featured-construction-updates As for the Fourth of July, we refuse to be the reason you can't carry on with celebrations as usual!😅 All work will be paused and traffic control out of the way July 2-5. The project is expected to be complete by early August. THANK YOU, Rexburg for your patience as the road gets better!😊 More info here: https://itd.idaho.gov/news/resurfacing-to-begin-monday-on-sh-33-business-spur-in-rexburg/” ITD has informed us that daytime work is slated to begin this Monday (June 15) will shift to nighttime construction later in the project.

As you tackle lawn care and yard projects this season, please remember that grass clippings, leaves, branches, and other yard waste should not be placed in City sanitation containers. While it may seem harmless, it’s a big safety risk for our crews.

Yard debris has caused literal trash fires in our sanitation trucks. It also damages equipment and can lead to delayed service.
Please compost yard waste at home or take it to the Madison County Transfer Station at the end of Airport Road. Some private yard service companies also offer debris pickup services as an alternative solution.

Safety is one of our top priorities for both our community and our employees.
We appreciate your help in keeping sanitation services running smoothly. Thank you for doing your part to keep Rexburg safe and clean!

NOTE: No actual sanitation trucks were harmed in the making of this image. 🖥️

It started here.

On June 5, 1976, the Teton Dam failed, sending billions of gallons of water racing through the valley below.

In a matter of hours, lives changed forever.

For many in Southeast Idaho, this image is more than a photograph. It is a moment frozen in time. A reminder of loss, uncertainty, and the strength that followed.

As we approach the 50th anniversary of the Teton Dam Flood, we remember those who lived through it, those who helped rebuild, and the legacy they left behind.
And we remember that some moments shape a community in more ways than one.

Flood 50 begins tomorrow, June 1.

The floodwaters arrived in hours.
The recovery began immediately.

Schools, churches, community centers, and gathering places became shelters. Neighbors checked on neighbors. Volunteers served meals. Strangers shared space, supplies, and support.

When people remember the Teton Dam Flood, they don't forget the devastation.
But what they hold on to is the hope that was built by a community led by kindness.

Fifty years later, we recognize the 80 billion gallons of water that roared through the region, but we honor the people who lifted each other in a time of need.

Flood 50 begins June 1.

• Daily community service projects throughout Flood 50 week
• Food drives, blood drives, and cleanup projects
• Volunteer opportunities connected to marathon events
• Partnerships with America250 and local service organizations
• Community-wide projects focused on giving back

We keep repeating these three pillars: Remember | Connect | Serve.
Together, they represent one powerful legacy.

Together, we will REMEMBER the stories, lives, and history connected to the Teton Dam Flood.

Together, we will CONNECT with neighbors, family, community events, and the shared experiences that shaped Eastern Idaho 50 years ago.

Together, we will SERVE in the same spirit of resilience, compassion, and community support that emerged in the aftermath of June 1976.

Throughout Flood 50, these three ideas will guide exhibits, films, races, service projects, tours, celebrations, and community gatherings across the region. And we will honor the resilience that endured long after the waters receded.

Help us flood the feeds by engaging with our posts about Flood 50 - like comment & share so all in the community and the region can participate in this once-in-a-lifetime event!

The results of the Police Station Bond election are now final. The bond measure did not pass. We truly appreciate the residents who took time to engage with us – whether by asking questions, attending town halls, touring the current facility, reviewing shared information, or voting. Community engagement and feedback are, and will always be, an important part of how Rexburg plans for the future. While the bond was not approved, the facility challenges that led to the proposal remain. Moving forward, City officials and the Rexburg Police Department will take time to evaluate options and consider the best path forward. As those conversations continue, we remain committed to providing education, facts, and updates across our official channels. Thank you, sincerely, to everyone who participated in the process.
